Samos is located in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea near the coast of Asia Minor. Northwest is Chios, west Ikaria, southwest the Fournon complex and south of the Dodecanese, of which the nearest is Agathonisi, Arki and Patmos.
It has a long history dating back to the prehistoric times. During ancient times, Samos was an important cultural center. The island flourished in the 6th century BC, during the period of tyrant Polycrates. Many important thinkers, philosophers and artists of ancient times lived on our island. The most well-known is the philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras.
Pythagorio is located south of the island, just a 10-minute drive from the airport, surrounded by beautiful mountains and large beaches.
The beaches of Samos, pebbly, sandy or between rocky shores are distributed along the entire coastline of the island, next to lush landscapes. Two of them are awarded with the Blue Flag for 2014, 2016 and 2017, Glykoriza beach and Potokaki beach.
